A few weeks back we had a shoot with Martin Taylor MBE. Yup, that’s right, multi-award winning, world famous guitarist and composer Martin Taylor, the same guy who’s collaborated with Jeff Beck, Bill Wyman and George Harrison to name but a few!!
It was a pleasure to meet him and to have been asked to take his photo. He’s extremely down to earth and alot of laughs were had on the night.
Unfortunately we didn’t get out to our chosen outdoor location due to weather issues but am overall really happy with the studio shots, Martin is too! Clean, simple and quick shots were the order of the day.
Martin has 2 new Signature Series guitars available for sale which can be seen in the photos above, they are gorgeous, I reckon I might be interested in purchasing one myself.
A huge and enormous and massive thanks go out to Stef and Keith at Rainbow Music for setting all this up and hope to do it all again soon.

Our location shoot with Scarlett, was the only day in the last week or so that’s been dull and grey, typical! Still the weather didn’t stop us and we even managed a few bikini shots, must be nuts. Scarlett is from the states so love the first set with US flag top and love the new location we’ve found in carnoustie, i’m sure there will be loads of shoots from there in the future. Thanks to Scarlett for a wonderful afternoon, she’s super nice and alot of fun to work with.
Mostly shot with natural light (which makes a change) with my usual lenses - 35, 85, 135L.

So to tie in with the launch of our 2012 website and new look here’s a post about a wedding related shoot from last week, that’s right, we do weddings and we have loads of new pictures on the site and here on the blog. We’ve also refined and updated all our package prices (including weddings) to make your day even more special. If you are looking for a friendly young couple to photograph your wedding in Dundee, Angus or Central Scotland this year or next come and say hello.
What a wonderful bunch of models and day spent shooting at the beautiful Rufflets Country House Hotel in St Andrews. Sadly the weather was extremely dull so the majority of the shoot took place inside the Hotel, we missed out on that lovely bridge over the burn and gardens but maybe next time. Rufflets couldn’t have been more accommodating, a perfect venue for a perfect wedding.
Models for the day were Tony, Seonaid, Hayley, Ferrol and Hazel. Hairstylist was Carrie Buchanan and Makeup Artist was Kirsty Miller. Dresses supplied by Diane Lynn Bridal Dundee.

We’re all very happy with this set, was a joy to do. The dress, the setting and of course sarah are all lovely. Shot at Crombie Country Park we certainly got a few strange looks from passers by but who cares with results like these. Thanks to Gilly and Sarah for a very productive shoot day.
Set shot with… Canon 5d Mark II // Canon 35mm 1.4L // Canon 85mm 1.2L // Canon 135mm 2.0L // canon 430ex flash in 28 inch softbox

2nd shoot with Sarah (actually the 3rd but i’m keeping the best till last). The first few were shot on a big hay truck in the middle of a field in Carnoustie just as the sun was going down, couldn’t stay long as we were getting bitten alive and my car was close to being stuck in the mud… it’s so glamorous this business! Sarah was rocking the cowgirl look, lucky she brought along those boots and again the light was just perfect, I love when it comes together like that unexpectedly.
The last few shots were down at Dundee Riverside with an oil rig behind sarah to create some of that wonderful creamy back lighting.
Set shot with… Canon 5d Mark II // Canon 35mm 1.4L // Canon 85mm 1.2L // Canon 135mm 2.0L // canon 430ex flash in 28 inch softbox

Taylor came to us looking to kick off her portfolio with some great shots and to see if it would be something she enjoyed and would like to take further. For someone who hasn’t modelled before she was the most natural and relaxed i’ve ever seen, obviously been watching way too much Britains Next Top Model. This is one of my favourite shoots so far, getting out of the studio and exploring new locations, I find it a much more natural and rewarding experience for us and the model. Even with the colder weather we’re looking forward to stepping out more on shoots, we just have to find some new locations around Dundee and Angus, anyone have any ideas?
These were shot in Carnoustie and Westhaven with … Canon 5d Mark II // Canon 35mm 1.4L // Canon 85mm 1.2L // Canon 135mm 2.0L // canon 430ex flash

Haven’t shot with Catriona for such a very long time, she was part of our second ever shoot a few years back and it was so good it inspired us and gave us the confidence to take on more shoots, was great to see her again and so chuffed she chose us to do her first shoot after having a baby. Started off simple then headed out for some autumn fun…oh so cold and wet… but worth it!

Last weekend was spent shooting Hazel and Gracie from Colours Modelling Agency Glasgow, the shoot was split into 2 days. The client was ABX Beauty Ltd who are based in Perth. The reason for the lengthy shoot was that Burfly was shooting the whole process from start to finish for individual eyelash extensions for 2 girls, what an incredibly involved and time consuming process but well worth it in the end, they looked amazing.
A huge thanks goes to Kirsty Miller at signature makeup who must be getting fed up of the sight of us by now and also of course to Angie at ABX.
Full sets can be found over on our photo diary as usual and head over to Signature Makeups blog for more info about the shoot and the lashes

We always manage to get back to the fringe since we moved away from Edinburgh a few years ago so this year was no exception, my favourite time of year but we did only stay on the Royal Mile for about an hour since it was Jack’s first visit, we reigned him in gently. The National Museum of Scotland proved a much bigger success, there were dinosaurs and cheese rolls of course. Below are a selection of shots of performers on the Royal Mile from the day.

Well once again we’ve been away for a while, we’ve been busy creating a small studio space at our new home in carnoustie and settling in, pretty much finished now so will have some shoots in it soon, however given the amazing weather yesterday we decided to head out for a couple of hours with Katie Isaac from Aberdeen. After much car trouble she eventually got here so time was of the essence. The day before we’d found some great locations so headed straight for them. Katie was a wonderful model to work with and is a makeup artist to boot making our job much easier. Hope to work with her again in the future.

Well after a long wait we’re finally able to show you a selection of images from our BREO product photoshoots, to view many more of the shots go check out the gallery in detail. (this is still no where near the amount that were chosen in the end)
This was a BIG learning curve for us and extremely time consuming, shoots were split up over a few months, well worth it though, we think we’ve achieved some great results working alongside Breo. Much of these shots are already being used in their marketing material, just noticed one the other day in the inflight magazine while flying Ryanair…nice!
Thanks to Keith and the team at Breo for this opportunity, we hope to continue this line of work.

Great great great shoot with Sarah Robertson - haven’t seen her in so long, she hadn’t modelled for a while but it took her no time at all to get back in the swing despite the freezing temperatures. Assisted as usual by Gilly who does a wonderful job of blethering and choosing outfits. These were shot around the Verdant Works area of Dundee, I like the strong use of colour and abstract shapes the area provided. View the whole set.

(Makeup by Kirsty Miller) Good to see them finally being used, i believe there is alot more marketing material still to come using these images so can’t wait to see it. We have been working on a hell of alot of products shots for Breo over the last few months too so stay tuned to see them.

Worth waiting for? I’m pretty stoked about this shoot. The 85L is hard to get to grips with, quite a few images not as sharp as i’d wish but the creamy backgrounds and general look and colour of the images are more than worth it. Again all shot with just one light setup.

Shoot with Elaine Ford and our first of 2011 after taking a huge break and boy what a way to start our year off. Hopefully the rest of the year can be as productive. thanks to Ally Deacon for the amazing job with the hair.
These were all shot with one small strobe light - a canon 430ex inside a 28inch westcott apollo softbox, it still amazes me what can be achieved with such a simple off camera setup. My new canon 85mm f1.2L lens came out and it was the first real play I’ve had with it since buying a few months back, think i’ll be keeping the little beast for sure!!
Think i’m finally finding my style and groove and would like to develop this throughout the year, please get in touch if you fancy a shoot.

Great shoot with the Fenwick family from Carnoustie on Sunday at Baxter park (pretty much the only place we could get to given the snow chaos) A birthday/xmas gift for mum and we hope she likes the results as much as we do. Kirsty and Rhianne were great sports and great posers to boot as you can see from the small selection above.
Our first shoot in the snow and our first with the legendary 85mm f1.2 L. This lens may stay permanently attached (if it weren’t for the 135L of course)
We’ve been taking a huge break of late with the arrival of Jack and should be back after the new year so will be taking bookings. Looking to take on much more family, engagement and couple sessions next year too.

Photoshoot for BREO
What an amazing, stressful, fun and awesome day this shoot was and the next couple of days were even better…
We had this shoot planned for a while after a successful product shoot for the company a while back, took alot of organisation but all came together in the end.
Models for the day were Elaine Ford from Stirling, Cherryspikes from Edinburgh and Chris Williamson from Newcastle. The makeup artist was Kirsty Miller and from Breo were Lesley and Keith.
Sooooo many watches and headphones, some of them are very very cool! The shoot itself was fast and furious as we had alot to fit in, tried to keep the lighting fairly simple opting for a beauty dish and octabox and had fun with some coloured gels later on. Kirsty did some amazing work with the makeup and helped out with outfits n stuff, everyone worked super hard and hope the outcome was worth it. For me these are some of my favourite ever shots and hope to continue this line of work. To view the whole set check our our photo diary page.
So… the shoot came to an end, tidied up, fish supper came and gone and we got to bed, awoke around 1am with gills waters breaking 4 weeks early, what!!?? Panic stations!!
Off to hospital, stayed the night, no baby, went the whole of the following day and no baby, gilly was told to go home and even go to her final year exam but baby had other ideas, contractions eventually started and at 4pm on the 21st sep 2010 along came Jack Taylor James Campbell, our first son! BEST DAY EVER!

Love getting out of the studio, always checking the weather and itching to go exploring. These are my favourite style of shots, outdoors, having fun and interacting with the environment, I think it gives the model and us something to do and it certainly puts a smile on the faces of the passers by. (At night in a back alley with stockings on, ha ha). Using only one light keeps things simple, less time concentrating on numbers and lighting - more time getting super cool shots.
We seem to have been stuck indoors alot recently so this shoot was a great laugh and Maisie wasn’t bothered in the slightest. Look forward to more shoots with her in the future.
Busy again this weekend on a very important shoot so stay tuned for more info on that.

Long awaited shoot with Maisie Donaldson from Falkirk, all very last minute middle of the week evening stuff but came together very nicely in the end. Using the monster 5 foot octabox and beauty dish. Not much room left in the studio what with the octabox and heavily pregnant wife helping out. :) Couldn’t do it without you though Gilly!
Maisie is a great model to work with, any scottish photographers out there should get booking her, so effortless.
Enjoying going back to basics and using only the white seamless paper backdrop at the moment, i love that through properly lighting the subject I can change the shades from white all the way through to dark grey without having to go buy more overly priced paper.
Would love to her what you think.

Kirsty miller lifestyle/commercial shoot
Busy weekend of shoots. This time for Kirsty Miller from Arbroath. She was looking for more commercial/lifestyle shots for her portfolio - simple, relaxed, lazing about the house, sunday afternoon kinda pics. Hopefully we have managed to pull it off, slightly different style than our usual but we really enjoyed the challenge and kirsty did too. If anything we got some good shots of our house in the background and i managed to properly experiment with the 35mm 1.4 L.

A trip through to Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the day, I miss living there especially at this time of year. Love the people, the atmosphere, the city backdrop…don’t love the hiked up prices or traffic, but you can’t have everything. We only really get through once a year now and cram loads into one day but it’s worth it, coming away with memories which last for ever after witnessing some out of this world shows… and well some that maybe we should try to forget.

Long awaited shoot with our friend cherryspikes from Edinburgh. You will probably notice we have a new smoke machine :) – and we love it! We haven’t had a shoot for a few weeks now as we’ve been working so hard on the new website and portfolios so getting back into it was a challenge but it didn’t take long and we ended up with some cracking shots, love the boxing/fighting ones… just the right amount of attitude. Pushed myself to go back to the 24-70L lens and it worked a treat… this is definitely my studio lens from now on. Trying out gels too, managed to melt a few, oops!
Thank to cherryspikes, gilly and the bump.

Bunch of new shots taken with our pal Cat Rennie from Edinburgh. These were shot in our home studio and on location - got through alot of looks in the one day. Cat is a posing machine and has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years since our first shoot oh so long ago and has recently been signed with a modelling agency in London - Go Cat! She brought along her good friend and make-up artist Ruth Evans who did a wonderful job with the various looks… we’re very happy with end results. Thanks to everyone.
